Nestled in a forest on the top of a mountain in Kanton Zug is a beautiful 80 m2 home with large windows to connect the inside with its peaceful surroundings.
This is a holiday home for a family of three, and as such, I needed to make sure the house could be completely shut up for months at a time without requiring any maintenance. As such, I did not use any plants in the home, but chose to connect the interior with its surroundings by using beautiful dark wood, a green couch, a stone and wood side table and shades of purple sheepskin and cream boucle cushions.
I commissioned a dramatic 2 x 2 meter painting by Danish artist Mille Henriksen to fill the four meter wall space above the couch. It is reminiscant of a stormy sky and makes the large expanse of the room feel more cosy.
A wooden bench covered in sheepskin acts as both a place to hide hiking boots and put them on, keeping the entrance space tidy and relaxed. There is ample space to hang coats and hats in the areas as well. A beautiful painting by German artist Kim Bartelt hangs by the front door in relaxed textures of paper to give a calming welcome as you step inside.
The child’s room has a touch of whimsy through the use of the treehouse bed and felt flowers in the flower box. Little felt birds dot the room adding touches of delight. Ample Lego storage is included throughout the child’s bedroom and living room so that they can play but also easily tidy up and keep the home feeling calm and peaceful.
The parent’s bedroom has textures of green wool and rich walnut, contrasted with marble, glass and linen to create a space that is both a nod to nature but in a contemporary and beautiful manner.
